Awesome. Have more info on M. I’ll debrief tomorrow. Don’t wait up. I added some emojis of an eggplant, a donut, and a laughing face that had me chuckling to myself on my walk around Mile End’s pretty green park.

If I was trying to convince Hollywood we were a professional team, he’d better not see my texts. Or he might find them amusing? He had a sense of humor; I’d seen it sparkle in his eyes when the cop was frisking him. Maybe I could coax that side of him out some more now we had some time together without an imminent threat breathing down our necks.

There was no sign of anyone staking out the narrowboat, but I’d have to be careful heading back into central London later. The Tube was probably a no-go area for a while, at least until the transport police forgot my face.

I mulled over the information Hollywood had shared, turning it over in my mind, like a pebble found on a beach. Anca worked for this M figure. Gareth Clarke was their mule. And M was the mysterious artifact bidder? Something still didn’t feel right with it all. The pieces only loosely fit together. Hollywood had been honest, to a point, but there was no doubt he knew more. Talking with Annie to get the other side of the story would help. Gina would jump at the chance, and she was a lot less conspicuous than Kempthorne or me. Maybe she could organize a subtle meet with Annie?

Climbing back onto the narrowboat, I was greeted with the sight of a freshly showered Hollywood. He’d changed into jeans and a T-shirt that was a deliberate size too small and hugged his chest like body paint. “The park’s all clear,” I said, trying not to admire how his jeans hugged his arse too.

Once out of his favorite coat, all his lean self was on display. I already knew there was strength in that body. I’d felt his right hook and had him wrestled against a kitchen island. If he tried those moves again, I wouldn’t be putting up much of a fight.

“Did you speak with Alex Kempthorne?” he asked. He’d collected a handful of potatoes and prepped them for peeling. With him turned away, I unashamedly roamed my gaze down the man’s back, over his hip, and around the curve of his arse. There was no way he didn’t know he was attractive. His dark, wet hair artfully finished the fine picture.

“No. I said I wouldn’t.” I propped myself against a cupboard and tore my gaze away. “I did text Gina though or she’d come looking for me. Don’t worry, I turned my phone off.” His quick hands chopped a potato like a pro. “You cook?”

“Sometimes. It’s pointless when I’m alone but…” He glanced over his shoulder, flashing me a charming smile. “I don’t mind with company.”
